Rename Parts

Renames parts and assemblies in a project in bulk, with prefixes, consecutive numbering, or custom regular-expression rules.

What it is for

Standardizes file names in an assembly: add project prefixes, sequential numbering, or custom regex patterns, updating references on disk.

Where to find it

Prerequisites

  • Open assembly document
  • Write permissions in the project folders
  • Valid license

Step by step

  1. Open the assembly whose components you want to rename.
  2. Go to MicroCAD → Assembly Tools → Rename Parts.
  3. Review the parts and assemblies grid; filter by name or part number.
  4. Choose the rename mode: None, Prefix, Consecutive, or Custom (regex).
  5. Configure prefix, starting number, or regex patterns according to the mode.
  6. Optionally include the parent assembly in the rename.
  7. Confirm to apply the changes on disk and update references.

Result

  • Files renamed on disk (.ipt, .iam)
  • Assembly references updated to the new name

Notes and limitations

  • Irreversible at file-name level; back up the project before bulk renaming.
  • Components with external references or used by other projects may need a manual review.
  • The secondary frmRename dialog allows extra one-off renames.
