Copy Design

Copies a complete design (folder with parts, assemblies, and drawings) to a new location with a different name, updating internal references. Legacy version (VB).

What it is for

Duplicates an existing design project and renames it, including .ipt, .iam, .idw, and .dwg files. Useful for numbered variants of the same product.

  6. Confirm to copy the complete folder with updated references.

Dialog options

Field Description
Existing design directory Root folder of the source design
New design name Name of the copied design
Prepend design name to filenames Prefixes each file with the design name

Result

  • New design folder with all files copied and renamed
  • Internal and drawing references updated to the new name

Notes and limitations

  • The ribbon button is named Copy Assembly but implements Copy Design v1, different from Copy Assembly in an assembly.
  • For the modern version from a drawing, prefer Copy Design v2.
  • Make sure the destination folder does not exist or is empty to avoid conflicts.
